Serve with Passion.
Joining God’s mission to extend love, forgiveness, and compassion to the world
As Followers of Christ, we are the physical presence of God, empowered by the Holy Spirit to be broken and poured out for the needs of the world. We have the greatest impact when we are giving God the best of the time, resources, and abilities he has given us.
Band of Angels
The Band of Angels is a small group with a ministry of service. While we seek to serve senior adults, single parents and the disabled, we also perform service for SHMC, the community and persons in need.
Projects range from painting for church, helping people move, supporting Angel Food Ministries (see below), making hospital calls, preparing food boxes, cleaning up the playground and preparing/serving meals. We meet to fellowship, study God’s work, honor God and serve God by serving others. We welcome new members and service projects!
Contact John & Janet Davis (2seniorscouts@cox.net) or Jerry & Jean Willems (flowerppl@sbcglobal.net) to join!
FOOD PROGRAM (Formerly Angel Food)
Mid America Foods is now available as a replacement for Angel Food Ministries. This program will save you many dollars on your food budget. We invite you try it!
You have the opportunity to help choose a name for this ministry. Please submit your ideas to the church office (place in offering plate or mailbox in the foyer) or e-mail Karla Headings at lelandh@pixius.net.
Advent Conspiracy
The past few years, SHMC has done the Advent season in a different way. Advent Conspiracy has helped us to concentrate on fulfilling Christ’s mission instead of a commercialized Christmas season.
In 2009 we bought one less gift, raising $35,000 to dig 4 water wells in Sudan.
2010′s “Afghanistan Challenge” challenged us to eat rice and beans for 2 meals a week and raised $30,000 for micro-finance loans to women in Afghanistan to start their own businesses.
2011 found us bringing the serving closer to home with “The Hope Project”. We were encouraged to be creative to come up with ways to save money during the Christmas season to raise $73,000 to refurbish a house (in partnership with Interfaith Housing Services) for a low-income 1st time home-buyer.
The Hope Project house is complete, with hundreds of hours of volunteer time and donated supplies – and will come in under-budget!
Planning is under way for 2012 Advent Conspiracy.
